Bypass to UPS Connection & Testing – Step-by-Step Instructions

Warning: Improper use of the bypass may critically damage the UPS. If you are unsure, please contact PSS before proceeding.

Step 1 – Connect Communications Cable

• Use a two-core cable (e.g. speaker wire or twin active – carries no voltage).
• Connect from the NC contact of the bypass switch to the bypass terminal on the UPS.

Step 2 – Set Bypass to Test

• Turn the bypass switch to the test position before energizing the UPS.

Step 3 – Energize the UPS

1. Power up the UPS.
2. Ensure the communication cable is correctly connected.
3. Follow the standard UPS start-up procedure as per the user manual.

Step 4 – Test Bypass Function

1. Press and hold the red interlock button on the bypass panel.
2. While holding, move the bypass switch to the alternative position.
3. The UPS should automatically enter bypass mode.
4. Release the red button. After approximately 10 seconds, the UPS should return to normal mode.

Step 5 – Confirm Operation

If the UPS correctly switches in and out of bypass mode:

1. Set the bypass control to the normal position.
2. If the UPS does not respond as expected:
3. Discontinue commissioning immediately.
4. Call PSS for support.

UPS Check

This UPS is designed to operate in temperatures not exceeding 40 degrees.

Exceeding 40 degrees will void warranty. Frequent high temperatures will degrade battery life rapidly.

Commissioning

• Ensure all breakers switched off on back of UPS
• Connect all Anderson connections together and turn on battery breakers
• Turn on battery breaker on UPS
• Turn on bypass breaker on UPS
• Turn on Rectifier Breaker on UPS
• Press and hold green button on display panel for 2 seconds
• Wait 10 seconds for UPS to start – front display will indicate normal mode (not bypass)
• Test output voltage for 230V +-5V – please insert voltage for report
• Test input voltage for 220-255V – please insert voltage for report
• Test UPS operation by isolating the supply power forcing UPS to battery mode
  UPS will alarm but continue to provide power
• Restore power after 5 minutes
• Ensure UPS returns to normal mode
